Dust (english version)
Sinopsis
“Dust” is a one-woman show that intertwines two destinies: that of a young Romanian woman who emigrated to work in America at the beginning of the last century, and the destiny of the artist herself, set against the backdrop of the great Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York (1911). A young woman visits her grandparents’ attic in the wake of her grandmother’s passing, seeking comfort in her childhood memories. With her old doll as a companion, the woman recreates the path of a distant relative who immigrated to America to find a better life working in industrial New York City at the turn of the century. When the shadows of the past intertwine with reality, the woman must confront not only her life choices but her very self. The performance received the Best Actress award at the AnimArt World Puppet Carnival Festival in Lodz. In Romania, it was presented at the ImPuls – International Contemporary Animation Theatre Festival and at FITIC – Constanța International Independent Theatre Festival, where it won the Best Actress award in the Competition Section for Young Actors and Students. The show was presented in October as part of Lebanon’s European Theatre Festival in Beirut, supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Romanian Embassy in Lebanon. “Dust” was the final project for the Master of Fine Arts degree within the Puppet Arts Program at the University of Connecticut and was presented during the 2016-2017 season of the Connecticut Repertory Theatre.
